Could not update; currently locked." - FIX: Under Office 2010 64-bit, transferring a WebResearch document to Word or using the Set Reminder for Follow Up feature no longer worked. - FIX: In the folder selection dialog box, after clicking two different tabs in very rapid succession, WebResearch could stop responding. - FIX: When saving a screen clipping, a window that was partially obscured by another window could not be captured completely because it was not successfully brought to the foreground. - FIX: After optimizing, the new size of the collection was temporarily displayed in GB instead of MB. - FIX: If 16-bit color depth was set in Windows, a runtime error occurred when using the Scanner Interface. - Additional minor improvements and optimizations Version 3.1.4413 - May 19, 2010 ------------------------------------------------------------------ - NEW: Much faster display of saved documents - NEW: Slider in the status bar to set the zoom level for saved Web pages and images in the Reading Pane (helpful for small screens with a high resolution, where text would be hard to read at 100% zoom). - NEW: When creating a new document or editing a saved Web page, you can now paste pictures from the Clipboard (by pressing CTRL+V). - NEW: Under Windows 7, during lengthy operations, the progress is displayed as a progress bar inside of the WebResearch taskbar icon (when moving documents to another collection or during optimization, for example). - NEW: After setting a reminder for follow up, when Outlook displays the corresponding task, the referenced WebResearch document can now be opened directly from within the task window by double-clicking. This even works if the document has been moved to another collection in the meantime. - NEW: The Flash blocker in Internet Explorer now automatically requests administrator permission once if Flash can no longer be blocked due to missing registry permissions (probably caused by a recent Flash update that locked down the Flash registry keys). - NEW: IFRAMES containing Google ads are now always filtered out while saving. - NEW: If a wrong charset is specified for a Web page, WebResearch automatically detects this problem and corrects the charset for the saved document. - NEW: When dragging a folder, the folder is always displayed next to the mouse pointer so you can be sure that you picked the right folder for moving. - NEW: After moving a document, a notification is displayed in the status bar. - NEW: The complete path of a folder is now also displayed in a balloon for results of a folder search. - NEW: The Categories folder is now called Categorized Documents. - NEW: In the Domain column, the www. prefix is no longer displayed for each document. - NEW: Faster transfer to Microsoft Word - NEW: Sending documents from within WebResearch now supports Thunderbird. - NEW: Further visual enhancements in regards to the Windows 7 Aero style (The Document Comment text box now sports a soft gradient instead of plain yellow; new notification window for large documents; status window during optimization; and more). - FIX: After importing multiple files, the imported files and folders could nowhere be found inside WebResearch if the option "Create the same folder structure in the collection as on disk" was active and the New Documents folder had been selected as destination. - FIX: When importing multiple files from disk, the import process could stop unexpectedly. - FIX: In very rare cases, when saving a Web page, garbage or a fragment from another Web page was appended at the end of the document. - FIX: After exporting or sending as a WebResearch Document Package, documents could not be moved or deleted any longer until restarting WebResearch. - FIX: When exporting a whole search results folder as a WebResearch Document Package, WebResearch quit unexpectedly with a runtime error. - FIX: If a thumbnail image could not be generated for a specific document, the following documents in the folder might display thumbnails from other documents. - FIX: When displaying or exporting a saved Web page that contained a style sheet larger than 300 KB, WebResearch could quit unexpectedly. - FIX: In the Document List, the file type icon might not have been displayed for certain plain text file types. - FIX: Under Windows 7, when transferring a document to Word 2010, long delays and a runtime error could occur. - FIX: When resizing the WebResearch application window, the previous status bar text suddenly disappeared. - FIX: In the "Examine Last Saved Document" dialog box and in Full Screen Reading Mode, the mouse pointer could flicker heavily with certain documents. - FIX: In the ToolTip that appeared after pointing to a collection in the Folder List, garbage characters might be displayed, or the ToolTip might have been displayed incompletely. - FIX: In rare cases, the Document List would switch to rename mode even if two different documents had been clicked one after another. - FIX: When clicking inside the WebResearch application while optimizing a collection, Windows reported that WebResearch was no longer responding. Especially during lengthy optimizations, this could give the impression that WebResearch had crashed despite the still running optimization. - FIX: Under Windows 7 64-bit, when saving a Web page in Internet Explorer, a security warning related to WRPH.dll could appear in rare cases. - FIX: When saving a YouTube page in Firefox or Opera after March 2010, a recommendation to switch to a newer browser was displayed in the Reading Pane when viewing the saved document. - Numerous minor improvements and optimizations Version 3.1.4310 - October 9, 2009 ------------------------------------------------------------------ - NEW: Improved Folder List: * Space between collections (like in Windows Explorer of Windows 7) * More pleasant, subdued colors for the numbers next to the folders * Light background color * During a drag & drop operation under Windows Vista and Windows 7: + Mouse pointer sports Explorer style, which makes it easier to recognize + Highlights the full row on hover + Collapsed collections expand on hover + No more flickering of the mouse pointer * No more mouse flickering when expanding large folder branches * Much faster processing, resulting also in faster application startup - NEW: Improved saving of Web pages in Internet Explorer and Opera * Much faster saving (especially when saving repeatedly from a specific site) * High fidelity even when saving most complex, CSS-based Web pages * Web pages in new eBay layout are saved correctly again * No more flickering of the status bar display ("xx elements left") - NEW: Improved export of saved Web pages * Sophisticated, CSS based Web pages are now exported even truer to the original. * WebResearch metadata are now inserted as a separate area (IFrame) into the page header or footer, better preserving the layout of the metadata header. * The source Internet address inserted into Single File Web Pages (.mht files) is now an active hyperlink that can be clicked. * Speed improvements when exporting - NEW: Modernized visuals, such as: * numerous icons in higher quality (for document importance, for example) * more pleasant saving sounds in Windows Vista/7 audio style (a different saving sound can be specified in Control Panel) * adjustments to the Windows 7 color scheme * adjustments of even more dialog boxes to the Windows 7 Aero style (Synchronize window, New Collection wizard, Enter License dialog box, etc.) * more coherent colors under Windows Vista * new animations during lengthy operations * less intense yellow for search term highlighting * new highlighter mouse pointer * more neutral background in Full Screen Reading Mode - NEW: The total number of documents in a folder is now displayed right next to the folder path (in the bar below the toolbar). - NEW: When saving a screen clipping, the non-selected area of the screen is now dimmed, making it easier to select the desired area for the clipping. - NEW: When saving just an Internet address, a different sound is played than when saving a complete Web page. - NEW: If the Document List is active and no text is selected, pressing CTRL+C automatically copies the Internet address of the active document and puts it on the Clipboard. - NEW: The document size is displayed in KB instead of bytes. For documents saved in the last two days, "Today" and "Yesterday" is displayed instead of the real date saved. - NEW: The Create New Folder command now always creates one more folder on the current level. Subfolders can be created using the shortcut menu as before. (Through this change, creating new root folders is much easier because it's no longer required to select the collection first.) - NEW: In the folder selection dialog box, when pointing to a tab (representing a collection), the file location of the collection data file is displayed in a ToolTip. - NEW: In the menu that lists the last used folders for moving, when pointing to an item, a balloon tip appears that displays the complete path of the folder within its collection. - NEW: After copying the internal WebResearch address of a document, Microsoft Word automatically recognizes the address as a hyperlink when pasting. - NEW: In most cases, scrolling by using the mouse wheel is possible without having to click first. It's now sufficient to just point to the area that should be scrolled. Additional improvement: faster scrolling in the Document List when rotating the mouse wheel - NEW: If installed, WebResearch automatically uses Internet Explorer 8 for the document display in the Reading Pane. Benefit: Much faster display of saved Web pages, proper display of complex HTML 4/CSS 2.1-based Web pages. - NEW: More than 100 additional minor improvements, such as: * Systematic speed improvements * AutoBackUp is now always run whenever it's due, not just on exit. (Until now, for users who didn't exit WebResearch for several days, AutoBackUp might not have been run on time). * When suppressing the display of a document in the Reading Pane by holding down the ALT key, WebResearch now displays a notification. * If WebResearch quits unexpectedly under Windows Vista or Windows 7, Windows now offers to restart the program. * Under Windows Vista and Windows 7, WebResearch now displays all file folder paths in the Windows system language and no longer just in English, if possible. * In the delay page for large documents, when "Display document now" was clicked for a specific document, the delay page for this document is no longer displayed until restarting WebResearch. * When entering a folder or category name that already exists, WebResearch displays just a balloon warning and no longer a message box so that you can enter another name right away. * Also collections that are currently unavailable can be moved up or down in the Folder List. * All WebResearch program files are digitally signed. As a result, they are found trustworthy in Internet Explorer by default. - FIX: The DEL key sometimes no longer worked inside WebResearch after saving a Web page. - FIX: Under Windows Vista (beginning with SP1) and Windows 7 (32-bit only), WebResearch quit unexpectedly if a TabletPC or graphics tablet was used and a WebResearch folder was clicked. - FIX: After using the Scanner Interface, a runtime error "Element not found" could occur, and the WebResearch application could quit unexpectedly. This problem might have occurred only after a delay while normally using the WebResearch application. - FIX: Under Windows XP, the download page for the update didn't open after the download button was clicked in the update notification window. - FIX: Under Windows 7, AutoOptimize didn't run. - FIX: Under Windows 7, after each manual optimization, a warning appeared that optimizing was not possible. However, the optimization did in fact run successfully. - FIX: When opening the Create Web Page Presentation dialog box, a folder named Web Page Presentations was always left behind in the My Documents folder even if no presentation had been created. - FIX: Connecting to a network collection failed if the SQL Server didn't react within 2 seconds. WebResearch is waiting longer now and gives the SQL Server more time. - FIX: A changed folder comment might not have been saved when clicking in the Document List immediately after entering the comment. - FIX: When cleaning the Windows TEMP folder while WebResearch was active, it was only possible to display saved documents again after restarting WebResearch. - FIX: In some places, the time was always displayed in 24-hour format even if the 12-hour AM/PM U.S. time format was specified in Windows. - Additional minor improvements and optimizations Version 3.0.4038 - March 23, 2009 ------------------------------------------------------------------ - FIX: After installing Internet Explorer 8, editing saved Web pages repeatedly (using the Highlighter, for example) could cause a loss of umlauts and special characters within the Web page if the Web page was in Unicode (UTF-8) format. This also affected all documents and notes created with WebResearch because they are also in Unicode format by default. - FIX: If a password longer than 20 characters was specified for a collection, the WebResearch application quit unexpectedly once (the maximum length for collection passwords is 20 characters). - FIX: In the Examine Last Saved Document dialog box, Web pages with frames might have been displayed incompletely. - FIX: When selecting a screen clipping on dark backgrounds (for saving in WebResearch), the selection border around the clipping area was barely visible. - FIX: Under Windows 7, an error message occurred when saving a screen clipping. - FIX: Under Windows 7, no mouse pointer was displayed in certain areas of the Save Web Page As dialog box. - Additional minor improvements and optimizations Version 3.0.4033 - February 21, 2009 ------------------------------------------------------------------ - NEW: Significant speed enhancements in many areas (for example, when moving between collections, displaying documents, generating thumbnails, opening Document Packages, exporting, and much more) - NEW: New toolbar button "Remove Backgrounds" when editing a saved Web page removes all background colors and background pictures. (Frequently requested for cleaning up saved selections originating from Web pages with a dark background, for example) - NEW: In the "Examine Last Saved Document" dialog box, a new "Open in WebResearch" button allows to go quickly to the document's location in the WebResearch application. - NEW: When sending documents as a list of links, the comments of the documents will now be included as well in the message. - NEW: When sending WebResearch documents using Microsoft Outlook, the message window from Outlook no longer blocks the WebResearch application in the background. - NEW: Compatibility adjustments for Windows 7 - FIX: When saving from within Firefox, the local ScrapBook file path could appear in the WebResearch application and the Save Web Page dialog box instead of the actual Internet address for the document. (To fix this issue, the new Version 1.04 of the WebResearch Firefox extension must also be installed: in Firefox, on the Tools menu, click Add-ons, and then click the Find Updates button). - FIX: Moving documents to another, large collection could be quite slow (compared to earlier versions). - FIX: When moving documents to another folder from within a search result or a categories folder, the current folder view was closed and the collection properties were displayed. In addition, the entire Folder List was recreated, slowing down the move operation significantly. - FIX: If the last used folder for saving had been moved to the Deleted Documents folder in the meantime, WebResearch stopped responding after clicking Browse (to choose a folder for saving). - FIX: When searching for folders in the folder selection dialog box, WebResearch could stop responding when clicking a subfolder of the Document Inbox in the folder search result and the Document Inbox was hidden. - FIX: After installing Internet Explorer 8, it was no longer possible to expand the links of a Web page in Multiple Saving. Thus, the subpages referenced by the page could no longer be displayed and saved using Multiple Saving. - FIX: In Internet Explorer, the highlighter could no longer be activated for certain Web pages. This problem was more likely to occur after installing Internet Explorer 8. - FIX: The highlighter mouse pointer was no longer displayed after installing Internet Explorer 8. - FIX: After installing Internet Explorer 8, Microsoft Office documents stored in WebResearch were sometimes no longer displayed in the Reading Pane and were opened in the Office program instead. - FIX: The "Check if already saved" command only worked in Internet Explorer and Firefox but not in Windows Explorer (for checking files). - FIX: After updating to version 4 of Windows Search, WebResearch no longer displayed a notification that a search result might be incomplete if Windows Search was still creating the full-text index for the collection. - FIX: If the Windows Search service was disabled, WebResearch displayed a misleading error message when searching. - FIX: When canceling a synchronization, the changes already made were not automatically reflected in the Folder List and Document List of the WebResearch application. They only became visible after manually updating the view (by pressing F5, for example). - FIX: WebResearch no longer remembered the password for Network Collections when using SQL Server authentication. Thus, the password had to be re-entered each time when using WebResearch. - FIX: When AutoOptimizing, always the default collection was optimized even if another collection was specified for optimizing. - FIX: At startup, WebResearch could quit unexpectedly with a fault in kernel32.dll. - FIX: In rare cases, the WebResearch layout file could become corrupted. As a result, icons on many toolbar buttons and menu commands were missing. - FIX: The weekly automatic update check didn't work under certain cicumstances. - FIX: Under Windows Vista, if Firefox had been set as the default browser and Internet Explorer again later, WebResearch didn't see this change and continued to use Firefox as the default browser. - Numerous minor improvements and optimizations Version 3.0.4010 - May 23, 2008 ------------------------------------------------------------------ - FIX: When clicking "Save Selection As" on the WebResearch toolbar in Internet Explorer, the entire Web page was saved, not just the selection (saving a selection using the shortcut menu commands worked correctly, though). - FIX: If the connection to a network collection was dropped and a folder was clicked afterward, the WebResearch application quit unexpectedly. - FIX: After synchronizing, the changes didn't become immediately visible in the WebResearch application but only after refreshing the view. This could give the impression that the sync didn't run successfully. - FIX: When searching for all indexed documents, the WebResearch application quit unexpectedly if the search result should be shown in a new folder. - FIX: Under WebResearch Personal, the application could quit with a runtime error when viewing certain documents. This problem didn't occur under WebResearch Pro. - FIX: When saving Web pages from the Wall Street Journal (www.wsj.com), pictures were missing. - FIX: The "Examine Last Saved Document" command displayed an empty page when the last document that was saved was just an Internet address (not a Web page). - Additional minor improvements and optimizations Version 3.0.4008 - April 29, 2008 ---------------------------------------------------------------- - FIX: When creating a new document or note, pictures pasted from the Web were not saved. - Additional minor improvements and optimizations Version 3.0.4007 - April 23, 2008 ---------------------------------------------------------------- - FIX: Retrieval or export of large documents could take a long time. - FIX: When searching using Windows Search, Web pages containing frames were included multiple times in the search result. - FIX: Embedded URLs longer than 255 characters could not be processed correctly in certain cases. - FIX: When examining the last saved document or refreshing a document from the Web, script error messages could appear if the Web page contained script errors. - FIX: When creating, renaming, or deleting categories in the Select Categories dialog box, the changes were not automatically reflected in the WebResearch application. (For example, after clicking a category that had been deleted in the meantime, the WebResearch application quit unexpectedly.) Only after refreshing the view (by pressing F5, for example), the category changes became visible. - FIX: In Internet Explorer, balloon notifications shown by WebResearch didn't disappear right away after clicking them. - Additional minor improvements and optimizations Version 3.0.4004 - April 11, 2008 ---------------------------------------------------------------- - First release of WebResearch 3 For a list of earlier updates (Web Research 2.x), see: www.macropool.com/en/download/webresearch/wrhistory.txt -- Copyright (C) macropool 2008-2010
